Ascending slowly, drinking electrolyte fluids and proper rest are key meditation in this biking trip.

Annapurna Circuit mountain biking

Annapurna circuit mountain biking offers many opportunities to behold nature’s great varieties in this biking package programme from us. Being located at North—Central of Nepal, with a wide range of 230 km (145 miles), this Annapurna Circuit is highly recommended to go biking in a counter clockwise by almost all previous local trail builders, travelers and international biking hikers. It is the top ten most popular worldwide known hiking trek routes, too. Historically, in 1985, this route was officially included inside the Annapurna Conservation Area by government of Nepal. Since then, the nature’s purity has been well preserved as it was long decades ago.

During our Mountain biking ride, encountering bio-diversity among noticeable floras and faunas while elevating and descending in this biking trail is much often. In other words, this biking trail is absolutely rewarding when you elevate and see with your own eyes the clouds beneath your bike wheels, and majestic Himalayas upfront of you. From rich subtropical green vegetation to desert and further to arctic vegetation, this biking tour never stops in rewarding us.

On this mountain biking journey, we need to cross ‘Thorang La pass’ (5416m). While we travel with our mountain bikes, we introduce Tibetan nostalgia all around human settlings, and ride on side of Marshyandgi river George, and then after, we come across several outstanding Himalayan waterfalls, too. Does not this sound adventurous? Yeah!

As we pass these destinations thoroughly on our free wheels with no any gasoline expenses at your own rhyme of pedaling the cliff on and on … phew!! The mother nature will serve you pine-forest highland to dry grasslands, gigantic alpine bald rocky peaks, several birds chirping sounds, and not to mention cooling fresh oxygen from the Annapurna Himalayan cliff itself … Wow! Shhh…Ahaaaa!!

In this trip, you get to see breath taking views of gigantic Himalayas after 2-3 days of biking, and this very scenery keeps on changing each day followed by mind calming Tinkling! Tinkling!! bell sound from domesticated Himalayan yaks and mules along our biking trail route, with never ending waterfall and river’s George sound will make you posing for picture either to tweet or post in Insta just naturally by heart. Isn’t this fascinating mountain biking reward?

Before crossing ‘Throngla Pass’, we need to rest in ‘Manang valley’ at least for a day to get acclimatize. Then we carry our mountain bikes from ‘Thorang Phedi’ so physically fitness is highly demanding in this biking trip. You need to carry your bag packs and your mountain bike, too, while crossing this altitude of ‘Thorong La pass’.

In this circuit biking programme from us, we heartily promise you will be captivated by each destination since we have had trekked this route line many times. We will make you visit Tibetan nostalgic villages and Buddhist monks for fortune wish prayers into your life, also, we get you into hospitable honest hosts who will be welcoming us into each tea house lodge for our each day rest stay. The food and tea they serve has been always delicious and hygienic so far.

We start our mountain bike journey from ‘Beshisahar’, it is low land and we gain our height everyday till we cross ‘Throngl La pass’ peak point. We can stop at various landscapes view points and explore monasteries. We will have one rest day at ‘Manang’ were we can hike on either side of mountain, which will help in acclimatize at high altitude of Himalayas. It is how every mountain climbers prepares before visiting to ‘Thorang La Pass’ peak. Going downhill on foot you might find that easy but it’s not when you are riding/mounting on bikes, you have to be careful on several corner berms as the rocks are often gnarly loose and there is chances of falling down. However, we need to descend carefully so you ride slow and safely. Even you can push the bike in Steep section.

As we descend to ‘Muktinath’ 3760 m, on your time permission with your interest, we can also ride to ‘Lupra valley’, after reaching ‘Jomsom’ you can fly to ‘Pokhra’ and end the trip, or, otherwise we can explore ‘Marpha village’. This village is famous for its Himalayan apple garden and they do have fresh apple juice/ made wine in the season. You may try or buy apple brandy as a souvenir back at home. On the case, if you wish to go all the way to ‘Beni’ and then be only transferred at ‘Pokhara’, then you will meet hot water spring known as ‘Tatopani’ spot. Yeah! It’s a natural hot spring spot. Dipping down into hot spring is a natural massage, and it is believed that it cleanses skin diseases, too. OR, you can ride all the way to ‘Pokhara’ having overnight at ‘Kusma’ village. OR, ride through ‘Ghorepani’, hike up to ‘Poon hill’ (one of the best view point).

It is great adventure and fun mountain bike ride at Annapurna circuit with lots of options. As per your interest we Freewheel Adventure Nepal Team can operate the trip for you with no worries. Once we are back at ‘Pokhara’ you have option of flying back to ‘Kathmandu’. It is like 20 minutes flight. OR, you will be transferred by private vehicle or we still have option of taking tourist vehicle back to ‘Kathmandu’. The best way and shortest way of completing ‘Thorang La pass’ is driving till ‘Dharapani’, and ending at ‘Jomsom’ and flying out to ‘Pokhara’. OR, ride to ‘Beni’ or ride all the way to ‘Pokhara’ yes, on mountain bikes if you are an elite athlete. But after ‘Jomsom’ if you want to skip paved road ride we have option of taking alternative route on other side of ‘Kali Gandaki River’.

We give emphasis on your safety first. So, please drink plenty of electrolyte water and have extra day to acclimatize at ‘Manang valley’. Read your body and feel it. Take soup items and hot drinks and cold drinks, too which ever that suits you. No alcoholic beverages and smoking. This Annapurna Circuit mountain biking ride is not a joke.

Nepalese people believe Garlic soup is recommended while elevating onto this high altitude Annapurna Circuit tour. So, you can try it out. Peace!

Highlights:

  • Obviously, the first half of our cycling trip goes uphill, but after crossing ‘Thorong La’ it is downhill all the way, with views of rivers, waterfall and the Himalaya as we descend you have to be more careful as first in between ‘Thorangla’ and ‘Muktinath’, the path is to narrow and gnarly rocky pebbles on the way

On arrival just look for our Freewheel Adventure Nepal name plate and your name. Our airport representative will receive you at airport and drop you at your Hotel in Kathmandu. There will be a trip briefing and the opportunity for an evening walk around Thamel.

By mountain bike, we will visit a variety of UNESCO world heritage sites like Swayambhunath Stupa (also called monkey temple), Pashupatinath (the greatest hindu temple) and Boudhanath Stupa (greates and biggest stupa in Nepal)around Kathmandu as part of our acclimatization and get used to our bikes. Kathmandu is at an altitude of 1350m.

We drive to Besisahar by private vehicle, which will take around 7 hours. The drive is scenic as we follow Trishuli river and Marshyangdi river. We will have lunch on the way. Our mountain bikes will travel with us. So, again we can check our bikes and make sure everything is working well. Overnight at Besisahar.

After breakfast at our hotel, we will cycle through the town of Besishar. The trail slowly winds uphill toJagat. You will have views of the Marshyandgi river on your right-hand side. Today is a comparatively easy day ride, that can be considered a gentle warm up and taste of what is to come! The views of hillsand scenery keep changing as we ride.

Again, today our ride will continue uphill. Slowly you will get used to and acclimatized to the uphill. As we climb higher up the valley we will encounter waterfalls on both sides of our route. The mountain bike is scenic full of greenery.

Slowly we head to Chame, it is the district headquarter of Manang. There are lots of government offices based here. The views of Himalayas, from today onwards will change each hour and the view of Himalayas changes every day.

Today is quite interesting, but a long day, if we take the route away from the main track through Nawal and Gharu. The views on this alternative route, of the Himalayas, are simply amazing. Most of the trail we follow is uphill, with some fun technical sections. We also cross Humde airport today, before finally reaching Manang.

Today, we hike up the nearby hill and return to Manang. This is to help with your acclimatization. Later in the day we can visit the local monasteries and walk around Manang village. Manang village has everything from coffee shops, bakeries, tea houses and various hotels. It is a good place to stock up on treats and snacks for the coming days.

As we head towards Tilicho Base Camp, the route is, as usual, uphill. The track is mainly single track, some sections which are rideable and others that may require you to push your bike. Upon arrival at Tilcho Base Camp, we can take a walk to explore the area and take in the breath-taking views of nature. It is simply a wonderful location.

We will explore Tilicho Lake. Today’s trail has a mixture of downhill as well as uphill. As the route is mainly single track you have theo ption to ride or sometimes push your bike. If you’re riding, you must be very careful as there are loose rocks, and the trail is steep in places. You’ll experience strong winds in the evening, so remember you’ll need to wrap up warm to protect you from the chill. Today the ride should be considered quite difficult, but very rewarding. We spend tonight at Shree Kharka.

Today we must climb all the way to and over Thorang La (5416m). On the ascent, we will need to push and sometimes carry our bike. We have no option! After crossing the pass, the trail goes straight down. It is also steep, so you may be advised to push or carry bike. It is your choice. It goes without saying that we must be very careful on the descent. The chance of falling off is more likely on the downhill, so a slow descent and good balance is important in the case you are riding mountain bike. From other side of Throngla the path is easy unpaved till Muktinath. It is easy mountain bike ride.

Explore Lupra valley and ride to Marpha. Almost all the route on this section is paved. We can have side trip to Lupra valley, the view is amazing. We will mostly be descending so, don’t forget to put your brakes on! We must keep a safe distance between riders and please do not go ahead of your guide. Before reaching Marpha we will meet Jomsom. Jomsom is the district headquarter of Mustang and it is a developed town with plenty of hotels, restaurants and government offices. It also has a domestic airport. Today’s ride is quite intresting, so we can visit Monasteries and the local houses at Marpha.

From Marpha to Tatopani the mountain biking is technical if we ride on other ride of Kaligandagi or if you want to ride in paved road it is quite easy, the mountain bike ride is long ride today. It is mostly going downhill, following Kaligandagi river. You will see lots of greenery with the surrounding forests. As we complete the ride early at Tatopani we have time for a hot spring bath. The hot springs are near our hotel. We will just need to take a towel, a change of clothes and then take a well-deserved relaxing dip in the hot springs. It will relax the muscles of our entire body, and it is kind of refreshing natural massage.

As we cycle further down the valley, we’ll see more greenery and follow the river, Kali Gandgadi. Most of the trail is inevitably downhill. So, it is an easy ride today. Beni is another large settlement. We can have a relaxing stroll around and have tea at one of the local tea shops. Today is end of our cycling adventure around the Annapurna circuit.

After breakfast we’ll load our bike on our support vehicle for the journey back to Pokhara. We’ll check in to the hotel and enjoy a hot water bath/shower before walking around Pokhara. There is also an option to boating from the nearby lakeside, if you’re interested. We can walk along the lake side and relax.

We have various options for our rest day. We can go to Sarangkot to admire the views of the Himalayas, best before sunrise or visit the Peace Stupa. We can also take a tour around Pokhara and visit the Gupteshwor cave, David’s fall, Seti George and many more…

The drive to Kathmandu from Pokhara is 200 km, but road is under construction so, it can take 7-8 hours or more depending on traffic. A flight from Pokhara to Kathmandu takes around 25 minutes. The view of Himalayas from the aircraft is stunning.
