Jamachok Mountain bike ride is a day trip in Kathmandu. This biking trip is destined on the top of Nagarjun Hill or Jamachok Gumba where wavering flags of Tibetan nostalgia meets the lowland ofthe Kathmandu valley. It is the nearest national park to Kathmandu which stands at an elevation of 2,130 meters. At the entry gate, Nepal Government offers a permit ticket both for its visitor’s security and wild life conservation program. The first 5 km for Fulbari Gate (as it is known the entry gate, too) from our headquarter Paknajol,Thamel, is a bit traffic noised road, but it sooner gets into a tranquil ride on the second half of road trip. At the entry gate, we get a entry permit for our mountain biking guests, and from here on we travel through green forests filled with wildlife, hearing various bird species sounds and, if are lucky, wild animals such like deer and wild boar can be encountered on this trail ride . The road trail is ride able sloped uphill until the top of the hill. Particularly at the top of this Nagarjun hill, we’ll find a Buddhist shrine also known as Jamachok Gumba , where people from all over the valley come to pay homage to Buddha God. Nepalese Youths often hike up to this hill top, through short narrow walking stone paved ladder trail route.
On a clear weather day, we can enjoy view of the snow-capped peaks like Mt. Manaslu, Mt. Langtang range etc., and overall 360-degree view of the Kathmandu Valley. Since there are no any food shops through-out this trail, we need to carry our own packed lunch and plenty of drinking water for the ride. Shops are available only at the first base entry gate of this park or we may get some dry food stuffs and mineral drinking water bottle from very few local shops on the top of the hill. Other than this, to be on safe side for staying hydrated, we need to carry water from base first base entry gate on ourselves along chocolate bars for calories. After catching wonderful scenes into our lens, munching our lunch packs, and enjoying the feeling of victory over the Nagarjun Hill top, then We’ll be descending by the same route downhill with no any difficulty. However, we should ride carefully and slowly to avoid any accident.
