Jamachok Ride
  • Duration1 Days
  • Trip Grade Easy

Route: Paknajol - Balaju Chowk - By-pass Road, Nagarjun Gate – Jamachok Gumba – Same route back.

Jamachok is located in the Shivapuri National Park, and we need a permit to enter the park. It is the closest national park to Kathmandu and stands at an elevation of 2,128 meters. The first 5 km from Fulbari Gate are on a traffic-filled road, but after that, traffic is minimal. The ride becomes uphill after Fulbari Gate, and we pass through green forests filled with wildlife, including various bird species and, if we're lucky, some wild animals. At the top of the hill, we’ll find a Buddhist shrine, where local people come to pay homage. Young locals often hike up to this spot as well.

On a clear day, we’ll enjoy views of the snow-capped peaks and the Kathmandu Valley. We need to carry our own packed lunch and plenty of water for the ride, as there are no places to purchase food along the way. We’ll return by the same route. The descent is mostly downhill, so we should ride carefully and slowly.
