Pikey Peak Enduro

Pikey Peak Enduro

Pikey Peak provides the enduro ride for mountain biking. Location wise it is far from Kathmandu. But being there itself you will see plenty of Panoramic views of the Himalayas including Mt. Everest, the world's highest peak. The trails are rough and single track including rocky and Steep in the upper section. You have to be very careful and conscious as we ascended 4100 m high. We need to be fully acclimatized. So, our itinerary is made in such a way you get proper time to acclimatize before ascending. It is good to be physically fit, so you need to do exercise back home. Pikey Peak is the deity of Sherpa. Sherpa people have faith on Pikey Peak. We mostly meet the most friendly Sherpa People on Pikey Peak trail. Here we find Buddhist people reside and Buddhism is more common. On time permission and as per your interest we can visit monasteries. Here the flow of tourists is low as compared to Annapurna and Everest. The accommodation and food is simple in the tea houses on the trail to Pikey peak. Please be sure they serve hygienic food with good hospitality from the local people. Rich vegetation and stunning terrains make the biking trip memorable. We get a spiritual vibe in this area as we meet Buddhist Monasteries, Stupas and Gompas. Most of the time the environment and air is really fresh in this area.

How far is Pikey Peak? How to get there?

Pikey Peak biking starts from Dhap. Driving distance from Kathmandu to Dhap is like 8-9 hours. There is an option of flying to Phaplu, it can be the easiest and fastest option to get to Pikey peak.

Our airport representative will meet you at the airport. Just look for your name and Freewheel Adventure Nepal name plate at the airport. We will then drive to the hotel and check in. We will have to fix the bike and if you are free we can enjoy a short city hike.

Driving for about 90 minutes we reach Nagarkot. It is one of the best enduro in Kathmandu valley. There are various sections you can ride on. The enduro trial is through the forest and you will also meet rice fields and villages. We can see the Himalayas on a clear weather day. To enjoy the enduro trail in Nagarkot we need to have skills. We will then drive back to Kathmandu.

Today is the long drive. We come across Sunkoshi river. When we are near Dhap we will also see the Himalayas. Upon arrival of Dhap we check our bike and have tea. We will then ride our bike to Jhapre. It is a bit of Jeep track. Our ride is all along Pine and Rhododendron forest. We also come across Yak Pasture. The mt. biking trails have ups and downs.

Before having breakfast we will check our bike and after breakfast we start to ride. The road is dusty and we are ascending. We go slow as we come across the forest. But after a point there are no trees, only grass is growing on the ground and we also meet a holy Buddhist point where there are mani walls, Stupa and Prayer flag. Now we have to ride on a trekking trail. So, in some sections we have to push the bike. Before reaching Pikey Peak base camp we need to push or carry the bike for about 1 hour. After riding for about 20 minutes we reach Pikey Peak base camp.

We will climb up on the top of Pikey Peak, we get a great view of Everest and the panoramic view of the snow capped peak is simply the best. Pikey Peak was also the best view of Everest for Sir Edmund Hillary (who submitted Everest with Tenjing Sherpa for the first time). We then descend the rocky trial, you have to be a really good rider to ride on this trial. After riding for about 1 hour we reach Suke Pokhari and we'll ride in the Jungle. We come across Dimse, Ghunre, Sallari and finally reach Phaplu. The ride is full of fun as we follow a single track in the jungle and rocky stair section too.

Ratnange is above Phaplu. It offers lots of trails in community forest. The trail is maintained by Phaplu Mountain Bike club. We can ride on trails for 4-5 hours in a single track, with roots of trees, rock gardens and so on. So, today’s ride is also lots of fun.

We will drive to Taksindu Dhanda (3010m). We start our ride on a Jeep track and follow a single track and we reach Ringmu. We then follow a stone footpath and slowly climb up to a single track. We will have to push and carry bikes in some sections. After that we ride on a flat section and again drop down. The views are awesome all the way to Junbesi (2700m), towards the end of our biking trip we need to climb a bit and we reach our teahouse.

Today we visit Thupten Choling Monastery on a drive and we can visit the Tibetan Refugee Camp. We will then ride all the way to Phaplu. On your interest and your stamina we can go for Ratnagi’s Trails.

Today we will drive for about 8 to 9 hours and we will stop on the highway for Lunch. Evening we can take you to Restaurant and have food of your choice.

Free day in Kathmandu. Shopping. We can plan a half day ride around Kathmandu valley or use a vehicle to tour the city. All up to you.

Before 3 hours of flight time we will transfer you to the airport to fly back home.
