‘Khokana and Bungmati’ mountain bike ride is a day trip at Patan of Lalitpur metropolitan city. It is a traditional Newari village where most of the farmers do farming to live on happy life since long decades of monarch history in Nepal. Khokana and Bungmati are the two unique Newari villages within 10 km radius toward south of Kathmandu. These villages provide intimate glimpse of medieval period. It is like a true living museum or a open-air museum where pollution never bothers to discourage its visitors. It has an authentic ancient wood carving handcrafting skills, traditional mustard oil pressing mills, narrow alley streets, red-brisket house builts, Pagoda style temples and a pond (here local people gather for performing religious recites and beliefs). It is home of ‘Rato Machindranath’ (the deity of the rain and compassion also named as the god of fertility and prosperity), ‘Shikali Mai Temple’ (dedicated to the native mother Goddess), ‘Karya Binayak temple’, and other ever wondering settlements unlike to any other nation across the world.
Mountain biking in Khokana and Bungmati offers us an ancient culture and traditional vibes. Old Newari architected house builds, tradational rituals and festivals passed down from centuries or perhaps millennia still on alive proves this community’s devotion is religious, spiritual and devotional.
During MTB ride into these villages, you can see local people weaving traditional clothes, people working in the fields or extracting mustard oil from their traditional mills, children playing in the courtyard of temples or on street, elderly aged people sitting on Chautara (a place where a tree is keeping its wide shade against the sun) casually smoking either tobacco or marijuana with no any offense toward foreign visitors.

The first and last sections of the trail have traffic, but no worries there! We’ll take it slow in front, at middle and in the back. We as a guide will escort you form front and behind. The middle sections involve some uphill riding, but as soon as we get back into the Ring Road of the Kathmandu valley, most of the way is flat road paved terrain. Such the ride is enjoyable, with more options to try local Newar food for lunch. On the other hand, as on your preferance, we can bring a packed lunch, too.After we complete this trip, we can visit Patan Durbar Square also known the medieval period King’s Palace. Finally, we can have late afternoon lunch after completing this mountain bike tour at Patan Durbar Square.

We provide Helmet and you have to return it after the trip. You need to bring water bottles, Gloves, air proof jacket or windcheater, buff face wear, t-shirt, shorts, trousers, shoes, eye goggles (sun glass), light backpack, chocolate bars, and others are optional [for instance: Raincoat is need only during raining season which is in June/July/August]. Weather is unpredictable but we have to have all needy gears.
