This is a famous and historic off road cycling route. The accommodation at guest houses is considered simple and basic. The food you get is the Nepalese traditional Dal Bhat, which is Rice, Lentils and Vegetables. You can also choose to have chicken in most of the places. We will be crossing many villages, rivers, forest and farmlands. This trip is for the medium level or advanced cyclist as there is plenty of uphill and downhill riding. These are remote and non-touristic places. Only at the end of our adventure will we return to the tourist city of Pokhara. We can offer these trips using tents and even a backup vehicle, but this will increase the cost. It is a fun experience to camp out in the fresh air and under the stars, but this comes at an extra expense.
Highlights:
- Experience and explore remote villages
- Visit lesser-known tourist locations.
- Travel through farmland and forest scenery.
- Trishuli and Gorkha town has old King Palaces that are well preserved, which we can visit.
- We experience many river crossings and splendid viewpoints
- Pokhara is beautiful, with views of the Himalayas and the surrounding natural resources.
How difficult is Kathmandu-Pokhara MTB Tour?
The route has a few difficult sections. The first section of the ride is quite difficult where you cross Gurge
Bhanjyang and after Tirshuli there is quite a lot of uphill. Aarughat to Gorkha is also pretty much uphill.
Finally, after crossing Sundarbazar on the way to Begnas, is also uphill.
Going downhill is not to be underestimated, as you must control your mountain bike as the roads are
not metaled, so can be rough and loose. So, you may experience pain in your hands and especially your
triceps. After we cross Gorkha it is downhill. Here also we must focus on our riding and be careful, as
there is a chance of falling off. This is due to loose rocks, loose soils and big holes on the downhill, so you
must be careful. Don’t worry though, as our guide will support you.
This trip is of intermediate difficulty. It would help if you were a confident mountain biker/cyclist back
home and you have walked or run almost daily for a month or more before the trip.
Which time of the year is best for your mountain bike adventure from Kathmandu to Pokhara?
Autum and Spring is the most convenient to bike on this trial. The weather is pleasant, and the skies are
clear. The chances of clear views of the Himalayas are higher. Although, we can do this trip throughout
the year, in rainy season we just need a good raincoat and in winter warmer clothing. A warm cap and
gloves are must in winter. Winter is not that cold as you are travelling at a lower altitude and in the mid
hills.
